Press Release - Word on the Street
An exciting mix of poetry readings, storytelling and word games on Saturday 29 March will launch the 2008 Write Here programme.
Canterbury Laureate Patricia Debney will host the ‘Word on the Street’ event on the steps of the Beaney Institute in the High Street from 10am to 4pm. It’s a joint event between the city council and Kent Libraries to mark the start of 2008’s National Year of Reading and is free of charge.As well as the readings, poetry and fun and games, the Whippersnapper Theatre Company will also be there with live performances.Canterbury City Council’s Creative Development Officer, Cassy Fry, said the aim of the Write Here programme is to get the people of Canterbury reading and writing more than ever before. She added: “There’s no better way to do this than to take the word to the street and tie it in with the ‘read all about it’ theme for the 2008 National Year of Reading.
